GRANDPA'S PICTURE PARTY
Castle Films presents Merry Christmas (1940's)
Silent. Commecial. No credits other than title.

MOTION CLIPS:

Jolly Santa Claus and his proud elves prepare for Christmas Eve. Meanwhile, dismal-looking shoppers squeeze through New York's Herald Square, farm turkeys are "made ready" and Macy's Thanksgiving Parade passes by. Santa does his thing and the kids rejoice. Merry Christmas!

Further Comments: This is a hodge-podge of excerpts from some children's film mixed with grainy newsreel footage of 1940's New York at Christmastime. Perhaps this reel was slapped together to cash in on the popularity of "Miracle on 34th Street"? If Santa's workshop looks familiar to you, that's because it's based on George Hinkle's illustrations from the classic "Jolly Old Santa Claus" storybook! Unlike Hinkle's Santa, this one's been on a diet.
