"A Bird's Eye View of the Fair" |
|
|
The time is Autumn, 1939. Gustave filmed the "bird's eye view" from the Trylon and Perisphere, which was a feat because photography was not permitted up there. Gustave, usually a law-abiding citizen, somehow convinced security that he was a cameraman on official business! Note the rarely-photographed underbelly of the Perisphere with it's mirrored supports and pool base. The fountains that sprayed the underside have been shut down for the season. From a distance the Perisphere resembled a polished ball, but up close its surface looked a bit lumpy. |
