ACL stood for the Amateur Cinema League, a national organization for amateur movie makers, to which Gustave belonged. Benefits included a monthly newsletter called Movie Makers and animated titles such as this one (above) for splicing in. The ACL was founded in 1926 with the stated objectives to help amateurs originate and produce their own plays and promote amateur cinematography "as a national sport". The League's membership was taken over by the Motion Picture Division of the Photographic Society of America in 1954. |
