About Wytches' Hill Coven:
O.K., What kind of people are you?
We're schoolteachers, social workers, nurses, hospital aids, graduate students, parents, maidens, mothers, crones and everyone in-between, who live and work in the metropolitan New York area.
What Do You Do?
Meet for Sabbats and Full Moons, and otherwise do what friends and coveners do.
What tradition do you follow?
We draw from many different traditions such as Gardnerian, Alexandrian, Dianic, Faerie, etc., so call us "Eclectic Wiccan". On the other hand, we do have a smaller, daughter coven called Befana's Broom that focuses on the Stregan tradition.
What's Strega?
Italian Witchcraft . Learn more about Befana's Broom and Strega here.
Where do you meet?
Currently in a private home on Wytches' Hill in a quiet,, leafy neighborhood of Queens, NY near Forest Park. We also have a private backyard for outdoor rituals (weather permitting).
Is there really a place called "Wytches' Hill" or did you make that up?
There is a Wytches Hill! It's been called that by the locals for many years. You won't find it on any map, but trust us, it's there.
Why the "y" in "Wytch" instead of "i"?
Y not?
Who's in charge?
While we have a few primary facilitators who keep things rolling, there is no official HP or HPS. As the coven matures we hope that everybody involved will participate in planning and hosting our meetings.
Who writes the rituals?
Every member is encouraged to write and lead at least one or two rituals a year. Each Samhain we assign sabbats for the following Pagan year by drawing Sabbat Cards, though personal requests may be honored.
Do you teach Wicca to beginners?
We prefer that aspiring coveners already have some basic knowledge of The Craft and do not need "Wicca 101" lessons. If you do consider yourself a beginner, then please see our section "Are You New to Wicca?"
How are decisions made?
We're a democratic coven. All group decisions are based on the general or majority agreement of the initiated, voting members. A former incarnation of the Coven tried to follow a policy of 100-percent consensus but that proved just too difficult for us to function, so democratic is better.
You initiate? Do you also offer advancement through degrees?
An aspirant who's known us for a year may choose to undergo initiation and gain voting privileges, or remain as a welcomed guest. But beyond that we do not have a degree program. Life provides enough ladders to climb.
