Written by Dumuzzi and Riannon-Lia
PST (Priestess): Before stone, tree, sea, and river,
PT (Priest): Before cloud, breeze, sun, flame, we gather together to witness the joining of two who wish to pledge their love and lives to one another.
PT: _________and__________step forward to the altar.
PST; Do you (Lady________) truly desire to handfast with this man?
LADY; I do.
PT; Do you(Lord_________)truly desire to handfast with this woman?
LORD: I do.
PST: Join hands.(she binds their hands- right to right and left to left -figure eight position)
as so your hands are bound, so are your pledges and hearts to each other and they are
bound to the Lord and lady, before each other and before this company of friends.
Look into each other s eyes.
PT: Listen now to the word of the Truth of Nine to which you have agreed to bind your lives together.
(Name) and (Name), this is the pledge of truth. Listen well. for in the listening you do make
a pledge:
FIRST: to love deeply, on a basis beyond superficiality, to commit yourself to each other,
and to those with whom you hold faith.
SECOND: to have courage, to speak for what you know you must and to stand up for one another when the occasion arises.
THIRD: to be honest to yourselves, to each other, and forsake hypocrisy.
FOURTH: to be faithful to one another, to your Lord and Lady, your beliefs, and to those
you call your family in faith.
FIFTH: to have patience,to master your talents, and to support each other in your will to
create and learn.
SIXTH: to be independent and yet ask for help when needed, to give support to one
another when asked.
SEVENTH: to continue against all odds when you know what needs to be done, to
persevere in the face of adversity, to unite to overcome problems rather than letting them
divide you.
EIGHTH: to let passion fill your lives, to embrace the intensity of your relationship, to
celebrate the joys of your bodies together without shame or exploitation.
NINTH: to embrace knowledge and the will to learn and to use wisdom in applying that
knowledge. These are the nine pledges to life. Will you abide by them and apply them
to your life together?
BOTH: We will.
PST: Then, now before gathered friends and loved ones, make your personal pledges so
that all may hear and remember.
PT: (name of Lord) what do you pledge to (Name of Lady) as her husband, lover, companion and friend?
PST: (name of Lady) what do you pledge to (Name of Lord) as his wife, lover, companion
and friend?
PT: Then now that you have pledged before the Lord and Lady, your friends, and to each other the most solemn vows of love and loyalty. even though the cord be unwound, your
pledge to each other remains. It is woven into the very braid of this ribbon or cord and
should be kept as a keepsake of this day.
